How do I seal my pouch?

There are several ways to do this. If you're filling at a co-packer, they'll use some sort of automated equipment. If you're filling by hand (which is not uncommon for emerging brands), you'll want to find a device called a band sealer. A band sealer will give you a nice, even seal while giving you some semi-automation. All materials are heat sealable.

Do you offer paper pouches or kraft bags?

We are currently exploring paper pouch and kraft bag options. Due to material constraints, kraft bags may carry a higher minimum and higher unit cost, when compared to our conventional film material.  *and digital prinitng processes. Reach out to a packaging specialist to see if paper is a viable solution for your product.

We'd suggest using a PCR (Post Consumer Recycled) Film if you're looking for a more sustainable pouch option. This material option is readily available and is comparable on cost and lead time.

Can a stand up pouch go in the microwave?

We do not recommend microwaving a pouch of any kind, unless there are specific instructions to do so. Ovenable and microwaveable films are specifically made and are not industry standard on every flexible packaging run (especially metalized films!).

Material Specs

The Pouch House uses 3 stock materials for stand up pouches. All materials are high-barrier with excellent moisture transmission rates (MTR) and oxygen transmission rates (OTR). For ultra-high barrier, go with our metallized film. If you need a special stock, let us know. We can either match or come up with a comparable structure that you have used previously.

How Do I Determine My Stand Up Pouch Size?

Here are some estimated fill weights with their correlating pouch sizes. These are estimations and will need to be confirmed by the customer for product suitability. Request a free sample kit to test if you are unsure of your pouch size.

Since different products (e.g., coffee, flour, nuts, liquids) have varying densities, these are estimated* volumes in fluid ounces (fl oz) and milliliters (mL) and fill weights based on an average dry product density (e.g., granules, powders at ~0.5 g/mL).

*The customer is responsible for testing and approving final size.
